Teacher-Child Interaction Training (TCIT)

We will customize an approach for your classrooms.

Kurtz Psychology Consulting PC provides behavioral consultation services to schools and teachers.  Specifically, we train teachers in Teacher-Child Interaction Training (TCIT). TCIT helps teachers prevent and manage disruptive, interfering behaviors in school settings through didactic training paired with the special sauce – live coaching.  Live coaching allows us to partner with teachers to provide in the moment guidance and feedback using a discrete bug-in-ear. The emphasis is heavily on first maximizing great positive relationships followed by learning state-of-the-art techniques in shaping desired behaviors as well as being coached to do effective limit setting.  Teachers are coached to give effective instructions and to implement disciplinary procedures tailored to their setting and their particular students. Teachers are taught effective strategies to prevent and manage disruptive behavior with the ultimate goals of building positive teacher-student relationships, increasing child compliance, and decreasing disruptive behaviors in the classroom so that teachers can teach!  TCIT gives teachers confidence and skills in behavior management so that teaching, character building, and developing student grit can remain the highest classroom priorities.

Kurtz Psychology Consulting PC provides TCIT consultation to general education and special education schools.  Our partners have included the White Plains School District, the Parkside School and Christ Church Preschool in Manhattan. We also implemented TCIT in the Brooklyn Preschool of Science. We have partnered with other schools in the past including the Hebrew Academy for Special Children (HASC). References available upon request.

TCIT is a research-tested intervention. Our team has been at the forefront of this work nationally. We have presented at scientific meetings on this work to the Association for  Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy International (PCIT), among others. Our TCIT trainers include Dr. Steven Kurtz, a PCIT Global Trainer, and Dr. Zohra Chahal, a PCIT Within-Agency Trainer Trainee.

Please email pcit@kurtzpsychology.com for more information. We will email you to schedule a telephone call  to talk more about the training process.
