Take your Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) coaching skills to the next level! This advanced, interactive training is designed for mental health professionals already certified in PCIT who want to refine their coaching techniques, especially in challenging clinical situations.
Through live role-plays with real-time feedback, you’ll gain hands-on experience to enhance your effectiveness in guiding caregivers. We’ll also review the theoretical and empirical literature on advanced coaching strategies to strengthen your clinical decision-making.
If you’re like me, coaching challenges and dilemmas are the rule, not the exception. Even the most experienced PCIT coaches can get stymied by clinical challenges in either phase of treatment. Some common hurdles include caregivers who struggle to follow through on their commitment to daily Special Time, children who are initially praise-averse, and kids who become highly dysregulated during CDI. We also see parents who have difficulty reaching the 10s and meeting proficiency criteria, as well as children who seem initially impervious to Time-Out. These moments can leave even seasoned PCIT therapists questioning the best next steps.
In this training, we will review the theoretical and empirical literature on PCIT coaching to deepen our understanding of effective strategies. We will also practice applying the COACH Code and the recently introduced PDI Coach Code systems in real-time role-plays, sharpening our skills to provide more precise and effective coaching in challenging situations.
